Surprise wedding ceremony
Everyone loves a good surprise…especially me.
So, I was absolutely delighted to be asked to deliver a surprise wedding ceremony for a fantastic couple in Kent, earlier this year.
Shh, keep it a secret…
In case you’re wondering, the wedding wasn’t a surprise to the bride & groom, but it was safely guarded secret that had been kept from their nearest and dearest.
Aside from the couple’s immediate family (their children, their parents and their siblings) who had attended the registry office service the day before, everyone else thought they had been invited to their home for a 30th birthday celebration.
Enter, stage right, the wedding celebrant…
Part way through the afternoon, having been snuck into the downstairs loo to hideout from the guests, I had the pleasure of interrupting the garden-party festivities with a very big announcement. And wow, were people surprised!!
Following a few minutes of shouts, shrieks, screams and tears of joy, the duly gathered friends and family, were instantly transformed from party-goers to wedding guests.
A special, personal, wedding ceremony
Working with the bride and groom in the lead up to the big day, I had put together a bespoke wedding ceremony that was built not only around the initial ‘surprise’ but also specifically about them…. celebrating their relationship and love for each other.
It was such a memorable wedding ceremony that I thought you’d like to share in the moment, by reading the script from the day yourself (with their personal identities removed of course).
Off script too…
Possibly nerves may have got a little better of the groom, who dropped his bride’s wedding ring through a crack in the decking as he went to place it on her finger during the Exchange of Rings!
After another round of shouts, shrieks, screams, and this time tears of laughter, we finished the ceremony with a borrowed wedding ring from the bride’s Aunt.
As the power tools came out and the newly laid decking was taken up, everyone, (especially the bride), was mightily relieved to see the ring retrieved. And, of course, finally take up its new home on her finger.
Just a quick email to thank you for such a wonderful day that we had. It was perfect it really was and our friends were absolutely gobsmacked. Needless to say we consumed lots of alcohol and danced the night away. Everyone said how lovely you were, and that you were brilliant. Once again thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
The happy couple
